bipolar mom shares her insights on everyday life

Penny Pinching in 2010

Tom and I decided it was time to tune-up our finances.  So, starting in December (and, yes, BEFORE Christmas) we began our trek to financial well-being.

A shout-0ut to Dave Ramsey and his book The Total Money Makeover.  Thanks to that book we have a good game-plan.  And we are actually excited about it!

So, as I was grocery shopping today, I was very careful about what I bought.  I learned a lesson, though.   Apparently, you not only have to clip the coupons, but remember to give them to the checker as well.  They don’t just give you $5 because you have those coupons.  In your binder.  That you’ve carted all over the store and carefully chosen your items to coincide with said coupons.  Nope.  You have to actually GIVE them to the checker.  Ugh.

Oh, well.  Maybe I’ll need 3 boxes of Kleenex next week.  And 3 cans of Progresso soup.  And egg noodles.

  1. Go back to the Customer Service counter and use them! They’ll give you a refund.

ps- I used to work for Dave Ramsey, his plan works! We are debt free except the house!

  2. Don’t you just love that we all are human and fall into these situations? Good for you – my adult kids have read Dave Ramsey too and use his plan. What a great way to start 2010!

I am crushed for you! That has to be the most frustrating thing ever. I can just see you poring over your binder and scouring the shelves for the right items. I SO hope CService will let you use them afterall.
I can not stand coupons because of this. I try to boycott them but I can’t seem to quit trying, no matter how many times I get burned. I have stopped using them in the grocery store though because it takes me too long withOUT coupons. Then I do have to listen to the cashier perkily (is that a word?) ask “do you have coupons today?” and I have to say “no” sadly as I put 200 dollars on the conveyer belt thingy when I only came in for bread and milk!

You know what coupons I hate? Those that are ON the product. Wouldn’t you know, those are the ones I overlook? I FINALLY learned to take them off, as I put the product into my cart and put them with my other coupons and that settles that frustration! As I check out ~ they are with the others.
